Key Responsibilities

Responsible for formulating policies and processes involving the ACMPE Certification and Fellowship programs and related matters, including making recommendations to the Board for conferring the CMPE and FACMPE designations. 

Deliverables and Tactical Actions

  1. Make recommendations to the Board of persons who have satisfied the requirements for achieving the CMPE and FACMPE designations.
  2. Oversee the committees performing and supporting the certification and Fellowship functions.
  3. Oversee the maintenance of the Body of Knowledge for Medical Practice Management.
  4. Oversee the eligibility requirements for taking the certification exams.
  5. Oversee the certification and Fellowship requirements.
  6. Oversee the process for exam development, review and scoring.
  7. Oversee requirements to maintain an existing certification.
  8. Implement an appeals process for persons to appeal the denial of a certification or of a right to progress to a further point in the certification and/or Fellowship processes.
  9. Make recommendations to the Board regarding the fees charged for the certification program and other financial issues related to the administration of the program.
  10. Make recommendations to the Board regarding ethical standards and professional criteria related to the certification program and Fellow status.
  11. Adopt standing rules and policies, including but not limited to the disciplinary process for individuals related to the certification program and Fellow status.

Maintain the rigor, value, prestige and collegiality of the ACMPE Certification and Fellowship programs.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required

  • Breadth of knowledge in the profession of medical practice management.
  • An understanding of the ACMPE Certification and Fellowship programs.
  • Experience as a volunteer leader within MGMA-ACMPE and its associated committees.
  • Attained the CMPE and/or FACMPE credentials. Sixty six percent of the Commission must hold the FACMPE credential.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Integrity, enthusiasm and professionalism.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization.

Term/Time Commitment/Location

Terms run for two-year terms (Oct. through Oct.).  Commission members can expect conference calls every other month or month as needed, monthly online conferring votes, one to two face-to-face or virtual meetings and various work via e-mail.

Staff Role

Coordinate and support all aspects of the Commission’s work.

Provide insight to the accepted standards and evolving nature of credentialing and certification.

Facilitate communication and coordination of the ACMPE Certification Commission activities with other activities and initiatives of the MGMA-ACMPE enterprise.
