Another week has passed since we went live on our limited EMR. We are entering certain information from the paper chart into the EMR in advance of the visit. Typically we are pulling charts 3-4 days in advance of the visit; this is the time when the staff can enter the current meds, past medical history, problem list, and social demographics. The first challenge was to get ahead of the current day, then keep it there. It seems all sorts of interpretations flourished. With that change overtime went crazy.
We sat down and analyzed the situation. It seems we can do the work without ongoing overtime, but it takes management that the front-line managers have not previously applied to the work. They have to know where we are everyday and continuously coach the staff on the goals and strategies to achieve them. It is a lot of talking about vision, mission, and goals. The owners are anxious about this, since they have not experienced this type of change. I know we will get there. Send me good wishes.
