Providers get more time to meet meaningful use stage 3

In a final rule issued late Friday, CMS delayed the need for reporting on stage 3 meaningful use early adopters until 2017.
The move didn’t assuage industry concerns about the timeline, with the College of Health Information Management Executives saying in Government Health IT that the requirement to certify 365 days of meaningful use for stage 2 in 2015 is still a big burden.
Under the final rule, those who certified for Stage 1 of meaningful use in 2011-2013 must now certify to stage 3 starting in 2017. Those who certified in 2014 will have until 2018, while those who certify initially in 2015 or 2016 have until 2019 and all of the remainder must be certified by 2020.
