Shared Medical Space

By Kristin Vette posted 05-24-2012 12:35

I'm hoping that someone out there can help me out with this. We are a small internal medicine practice and have been approached by a cardiologist who would like to rent space from us for one day per month. My problem is determining the rent amount for the one day per month. They would be independent from our practice with the exception of some shared resources, and would bring in their own clinical staffing and their main office would maintain the scheduling and billing.
What I'm looking for is a fair and reasonable rent charge.

Kristin,
You have to be careful when you are putting a financial relationship together between any groups that have real or potential referral relationships. Your rent has to be based on the customary rates in your market, and take into account any other support you might be providing, such as reception, rooming patients, computer access, etc. Be sure to check with an attorney on this arrangement to prevent problems later.
